Colombian authorities have implemented various social assistance initiatives to support vulnerable populations. In late September, local administrations focused on identifying and supporting the elderly. In Dosquebradas, officials launched efforts to verify beneficiaries of the ‘Colombia Mayor’ subsidy to ensure the continuity of national government benefits. Simultaneously, the Bogotá administration began door-to-door visits to identify elderly citizens experiencing ‘hidden poverty’ in middle- and high-income neighborhoods, connecting those in need with community dining halls and care programs. By October, the focus expanded to broader monetary transfer programs. The Bogotá District initiated the October 2026 payment cycle for the ‘Ingreso Mínimo Garantizado’ (IMG) program, distributing over 45 billion pesos to approximately 190,000 households, benefiting roughly 740,000 people. Additionally, the national ‘Renta Ciudadana’ program, managed by Prosperidad Social, continues to provide monetary transfers prioritizing households with children in early childhood and persons with disabilities. Regarding the ‘Colombia Mayor’ program, Prosperidad Social has announced that a new payment cycle will begin on Wednesday, October 28, 2026. This cycle is expected to benefit approximately 2,850,685 elderly citizens with a total allocation of $669,581 million pesos, with individual payments reaching up to $230,000 pesos. Payments will be processed through SuperGiros and SuRed operators, requiring beneficiaries to present original citizenship IDs for biometric verification. For those with severe mobility issues, a legalized power of attorney may allow a relative to collect the funds. Prosperidad Social director Sandra Suárez Pérez stated that the government is managing these resources to address economic needs, noting that a budget modification project has been submitted to Congress to cover commitments left underfunded by the previous administration. The agency is also implementing the Financial Information Manager (GIF) to facilitate direct transfers to savings accounts.
