Colombian authorities began a high-profile probe into the regional family compensation fund Comfamiliar Nariño in late July 2026. On 30 July, the Cuerpo Técnico de Investigación (CTI) of the Fiscalía General de la Nación arrested subdirector Olga Alicia Vázquez Martínez at her office in Pasto, alongside a female accountant and a contractor. They are accused of participating in a multi-year scheme that misappropriated approximately 8 billion Colombian pesos through aggravated criminal conspiracy and offenses against public administration. By early August, reports indicated that Vázquez Martínez and the unnamed accountant were cooperating with prosecutors under a “principle of opportunity” arrangement, potentially implicating additional participants, including former executives and local political figures. The arrests generated significant local discussion and calls for accountability across social media and in public spaces. In response to the ongoing investigation, the Citizen Oversight Committee ~~'Salvemos~~ ‘Salvemos a Comfamiliar ~~Nariño,'~~ Nariño,’ led by Diego Guerra Burbano, has demanded greater transparency and participation from contributing employers. The committee, which has been monitoring the ~~fund's~~ fund’s administrative intervention since October 2024, raised concerns regarding the stability of the institution, noting that eight different Special Intervention Agents have been appointed in just over four years.
