Valledupar is holding a series of cultural, musical, and academic events titled ‘La Cacica Vive’ to mark the 25th anniversary of the death of Consuelo Araujonoguera, a prominent Colombian journalist and cultural manager known as ‘La Cacica’. Araujonoguera was a central figure in the development of vallenato music, helping to transform it from a regional expression into a recognized symbol of Colombian cultural heritage. She was a driving force behind the establishment of the Festival de la Leyenda Vallenata in 1968. The commemorative program includes the opening of a museum at La Casona featuring over 50 photographs, an immersive concert at Plaza Alfonso López, and academic discussions focused on preserving vallenato traditions. These activities serve as a prelude to the 60th edition of the Festival de la Leyenda Vallenata. As part of the commemorations, the Colombian Ministry of Culture held a posthumous tribute in Valledupar. During the ceremony, Ana María Abello Restrepo, the Vice Minister of Arts and the Cultural and Creative Economy, presented an honorary plaque to Rodolfo Molina Araújo, president of the Festival de la Leyenda Vallenata Foundation. This recognition, formalized through Resolution No. 604, highlights Araujonoguera’s impact on national identity. The tribute also included a floral offering at the La Pilonera Mayor monument.
