Larissa is hosting various community events focused on health and social solidarity. The city hosted the 24th Panhellenic Torchlight Procession of Volunteer Blood Donors, an initiative co-organized by the Municipality of Larissa, the Phalanis Volunteer Blood Donors Association, and the 5th Health Region of Thessaly and Central Greece. The procession, which began at the First Ancient Theater of Larissa, traveled through major central streets and squares before returning for a central ceremony featuring a performance of the ‘Song of Blood Donation’ by students from the 23rd Primary School of Larissa. This initiative is held under the auspices of the National Blood Center (EKEA) and the Hellenic Thalassemia Federation. Additionally, the UNESCO Club of Larissa, in collaboration with regional and municipal authorities, is organizing the 10th Anniversary Marathon for Children with Chronic Illnesses. Scheduled for October 4, the event aims to support children with Mediterranean Anemia under the message, “We all run together for children with Mediterranean Anemia.” The marathon features competitive races, including a 620-meter and a 5,000-meter route, and includes participation from Olympic athletes Fani Halkia and Nikol Kyriakopoulou. Broadening the scope of blood donation awareness, the 24th Panhellenic Torch Relay of Voluntary Blood Donors, organized by POSEA, has extended to various locations across Greece. In Ambelona, officials received MP Evangelia Liakouli participated in the reception of the ‘Flame of Love,’ noting the rapid response capabilities of the ‘Elpida’ Voluntary Blood Donors Association Association’s ability to respond to urgent needs at the University Hospital of Larissa. Larissa within one hour. In Lixouri, the relay was marked by the participation of Olympic champion Katerina Thanu. The relay will continue in Corfu on October 1, featuring a symbolic ‘Chain of Solidarity for Life’ where students and educators will form a human chain around Spianada Square to promote social responsibility.
