At the International Port Fair in Mar del Plata, officials from Chubut presented the strategic potential of the Comodoro Rivadavia Port. Port administrator Digna Hernando emphasized the facility’s geographic location, operational capacity, and its role within the bi-oceanic corridor. Planned developments include infrastructure improvements, waste management, and clean energy projects aimed at meeting service demands and aligning with the FAO’s ‘Blue Ports’ program for sustainable maritime practices. In a related maritime security development, Puerto Bahía hosted officials from the United States Coast Guard and Colombia’s Dirección General Marítima (Dimar). The meeting focused on reviewing the Maritime Protection Management System and strengthening protocols under the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code to improve coordination and align operations with international security standards. Expanding on these strategic goals, Hernando recently addressed the Expo Industrial, Comercial y de Innovación Tecnológica, highlighting the port’s potential to drive regional economic diversification. While acknowledging the petroleum sector’s ongoing importance for employment, she noted that the current economic climate offers an opportunity to explore maritime resources. The port is currently pursuing projects to expand the productive matrix by utilizing sea resources to support local economic development and improve logistical efficiency for local companies.
