Congo Basin youth green entrepreneurship workshop
Overview
The International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF) and the Gabonese Ministry of Agriculture launched a sub-regional training and mentorship workshop in Libreville to promote green entrepreneurship among youth in the Congo Basin.
The program aims to transition agriculture from subsistence activities into professional business ventures. The curriculum covers agroecology, agroforestry, sustainable irrigation, and business modeling, including methods for accessing financing. Participants include approximately thirty project leaders from Cameroon, Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, the Central African Republic, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
While the initiative seeks to increase the attractiveness of farming to young people, observers have noted the modest scale of the workshop, which averages five participants per country. Significant challenges persist regarding access to land, equipment, credit, and distribution networks.
