Actor Adam Brody sparked controversy following an interview with GQ in which he expressed support for a free Palestine and characterized the Israel-Gaza war as a “genocide”. Brody noted that while he had previously discussed these views privately, he chose to make his position public. During the interview, he also commented on the political climate in Hollywood, suggesting the industry has become more outspokenly conservative due to prevailing power structures. In response, Rabbi Steve Leder, a former technical consultant for the Netflix series ‘Nobody Wants This’, criticized the actor’s remarks. In an Instagram video, Leder described the comments as “shocking” and “disgusting”, accusing Brody of mischaracterizing the term “genocide”. Leder suggested that if the actor does not fully understand the implications of the word, he should “say nothing about it”. Following the release of the third season of ‘Nobody Wants This’ on October 22, 2025, series creator and co-showrunner Erin Foster addressed the matter on the ‘Not Skinny But Not Fat’ podcast. Foster described her feelings as “complicated”, noting that while she loves Brody, she disagrees with his stance. She emphasized that the series was created as a “love letter to Judaism” to provide positive representation and expressed a desire to support the show’s Jewish audience. Adding to the criticism, actress Tovah Feldshuh, who portrays Brody’s mother in the series, spoke to The New York Post. Feldshuh called the use of the term genocide “wild”, comparing the rhetoric to “Hitler’s playbook” and arguing that such accusations turn the victim into the perpetrator.
