Following a live broadcast on August 5, 2026, SBT presenter Ratinho faced legal action and public criticism after using a homophobic slur while commenting on singer Tiago Piquilo. Agripino Magalhães Júnior, president of the São Paulo LGBTQIAPN+ Pride Association, filed a criminal complaint with the Public Ministry of São Paulo, alleging hate speech and incitement to discrimination. The Civil Police have since opened an investigation to determine if the remarks constitute discriminatory practices. SBT president Daniela Beyruti addressed the incident, stating that the network intends to discuss the matter with the presenter. While Beyruti defended Ratinho by attributing his remarks to a generational gap, stating, “I know he doesn't do it out of malice; he comes from a different generation,” she reaffirmed that “For SBT, everyone is accepted and welcome.” In a subsequent broadcast, Ratinho defended himself, claiming his remarks were intended as jokes and asserting that he has never disrespected anyone during his 28-year career. He accused Magalhães Júnior of attempting to gain financial advantage through the legal process. The Civil Police have since opened an investigation into controversy has drawn varied public reactions. Actor Carmo Dalla Vecchia criticized the matter.
