Overview

Kevin Eduardo Cataneo Salazar, 32, was convicted of the first-degree murder of Los Angeles County Deputy Ryan Clinkunbroomer. The incident occurred on September 16, 2023, when Clinkunbroomer was shot with a .22-caliber revolver from a vehicle while on duty near the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station.

During the legal proceedings, a jury rejected Salazar’s insanity defense. While the defense argued he was suffering from severe mental illness, prosecutors presented evidence that Salazar had prepared for the attack and had expressed a desire to kill a police officer for years.
