Cooperative society fraud arrests in Odisha

Overview

Odisha Vigilance has conducted separate arrests of former cooperative society secretaries involved in financial misappropriation.

In one instance, Sarat Kumar Nayak, former Secretary of the Anandpur Service Co-operative Society, was arrested for allegedly siphoning ₹21,28,058. Investigators found that Nayak manipulated official accounting registers by under-calculating totals after collecting loan repayments directly from members.

In a separate case, Sanoj Kumar Mishra, former Secretary of the Tusura Primary Agricultural Cooperative Society, was arrested for the alleged misappropriation of approximately Rs 42.31 lakh in government paddy procurement funds. The irregularities, dating back to the 2014–15 Kharif Marketing Season, involved paddy purchased with government funds that was never delivered to rice mills and was omitted from stock records.
