Boca Juniors continues to manage two separate competitive developments involving a legal protest in the Copa Argentina and their progression in the Copa Sudamericana. Regarding the Copa Argentina, the AFA Disciplinary Tribunal issued a ruling on a complaint filed by Vélez Sarsfield concerning a September 2 match where Boca allegedly exceeded the five-player foreign limit. The tribunal ruled that while an administrative error occurred, it did not constitute an illegal lineup because the sixth player, Ángel Romero, did not participate. Instead of disqualification, Boca was fined the value of 1,000 tickets. Vélez Sarsfield officials criticized the decision as “shameful” and “unintelligible,” and the club has filed an appeal seeking an injunction to suspend Boca’s quarter-final match against Racing Club, with indications of escalating the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Despite the dispute, Boca advanced to the Copa Argentina semifinals after a 3-2 victory against Racing Club and is set to face Banfield. In the Copa Sudamericana, Boca Juniors has secured a place in the semifinals following a 2-1 aggregate victory over São Paulo. They are scheduled to face Vasco da Gama, with the first leg set for October 13 at La Bombonera. The venue for the second leg on October 20 remains a point of intense legal contention. The Rio de Janeiro Court of Justice has overturned a previous ruling that required the Fla-Flu consortium to release the Maracanã stadium.
