Cornish Bards induction at Bodmin

The Gorsedh Kernow Esedhvos Festival of Cornish Culture is scheduled for 1–6 September 2026 in Bodmin. Organisers announced a series of events, including a Gorsedh Awards ceremony on 4 September, a bardic ceremony and the induction of 21 new Bards on 5 September, concerts, Cornish‑wrestling demonstrations and a final service in Cornish at St Mary’s Church on 6 September. Grand Bard Jenefer Lowe and Bodmin mayor Liz Ahearn highlighted the festival’s importance for the Cornish language and heritage.

On 5 September, the College of Bards carried out the induction, recognizing musicians, activists, heritage officials and a blogger for their contributions to Cornish culture. Honourees included overseas figures such as Paul Haas and Catherine Quayle (California), Phil Lokan (South Australia) and Francesco Trejo (Mexico), underscoring the global reach of the Cornish community. Additional local recipients were named for work in language promotion, music, and heritage preservation, illustrating ongoing efforts to sustain and celebrate Cornish identity both at home and abroad.
