Italian judicial and law enforcement authorities have launched several major operations targeting corruption, embezzlement, and organized crime across multiple regions. In the Naples area and Sicily, investigations have focused on municipal embezzlement, rigged public contracts, and the illegal trafficking of waste. Specific cases include the suspension of an official in San Paolo Belsito for fictitious payments and investigations into bribery related to high-speed rail construction in Marcianise. In the Marche region, the ‘Ricostruzione’ investigation, conducted by the Guardia di Finanza of Ancona and coordinated by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate, has uncovered a scheme where earthquake reconstruction funds were diverted to entities linked to organized crime. This investigation involves 51 people, with 8 placed in precautionary detention, including Fabio Pistarelli, the former chief of staff to the Marche Regional President, and Enrico Crucianelli, president of the National Association of Construction Companies of Macerata. Authorities have seized assets exceeding 57 million euros, following allegations that criminal organizations such as the ’ndrangheta and the Casalesi clan infiltrated public and private contracts. Recent developments in Marche have sparked political tension. Regional officials Silvia Luconi and Pierpaolo Borroni have defended President Francesco Acquaroli, dismissing opposition criticisms as “ignoble speculation.” Legal proceedings involving the Erdis agency have highlighted allegations of bid-rigging. Intercepted communications suggest engineer Michele Pompili was allegedly offered high-level management roles to facilitate specific contracts, such as the ‘Le Monachette’ project. While Pompili has been reassigned as the sole project manager for the Monachette intervention, prosecutors continue to investigate claims that tenders were manipulated to favor specific business groups. During recent precautionary interrogations before judge Sonia Piermartini, key suspects Fabio Pistarelli and Enrico Crucianelli exercised their right to remain silent. Pistarelli’s defense team plans to appeal his detention, asserting he is not accused of mafia association or wasting public funds.
