The Brazilian Federal Police, through Operação Overclean, identified ACM Neto, a gubernatorial candidate in Bahia, as a suspected political leader of a criminal organization. The investigation alleges Neto acted as a superior to businessman José Marcos de Moura in a scheme involving the embezzlement of public funds, bidding fraud, and misappropriation. Evidence cited by Supreme Federal Court Minister Kassio Nunes Marques includes 232 intercepted WhatsApp calls between Neto and Moura during late 2024. While investigators sought search warrants for Neto, the Minister determined that current evidence indicates political involvement but does not yet provide sufficient grounds for such measures. As the 2026 election cycle progresses, Neto faces challenges in the Bahia gubernatorial race. Polling Recent polling by Real Time Big Data indicates he trails conducted in late September 2026 shows Jerônimo Rodrigues, who Rodrigues leading Neto. In a stimulated scenario, Rodrigues holds 47% of the voting intention to vote compared to 43% for Neto. Neto, a margin within the poll’s error range. In spontaneous polling, Rodrigues leads with 38% against Neto’s 26%. Modeling for a potential second round suggests Rodrigues would hold 48% of the votes to Neto’s 44%, or a 53% to 47% advantage when considering only valid votes. Additionally, a campaign incident occurred in Prado, where a bus carrying supporters of Neto overturned, resulting in several injuries to women and children. Investigations are currently examining whether the vehicle was overcrowded at the time of the accident.
