Investigations into corruption and bribery involving the office of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann have expanded through multiple legal channels. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a corruption case against Rajbir Ghumman, the Chief Minister’s Officer on Special Duty (OSD), and other senior officials. Following a directive from the Punjab and Haryana High Court, CBI teams conducted raids at the Chief Minister’s camp office in Chandigarh and eight other locations across Punjab, including Mohali, Ludhiana, and Jalandhar. The agency has registered an FIR against six individuals, including two public servants and alleged middlemen such as Nitin Gohal. The probe follows evidence provided by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) suggesting illegal influence over government transfers, weapon license approvals, the leaking of confidential documents, and fraudulent land-use change approvals. Chief Minister Mann has characterized the raids as a misuse of central agencies by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to defame his administration prior to assembly elections. He asserted that “no matter how many raids they conduct, they will not find even a single rupee of corruption with us,” claiming the BJP is using agencies to create fear ahead of the 2027 elections. In response to the High Court's directive, the Punjab government has approached the Supreme Court to challenge the order. Concurrently, the ED has intensified a separate investigation into an alleged 5 crore rupee bribery case involving the Chief Minister’s wife, Dr. Gurpreet Kaur. The agency has summoned the Chief Minister’s brother-in-law, Amardeep Singh Grewal, to question potential financial irregularities and foreign funding linked to his company, M/S East Sunshine Production Private Limited. Allegations suggest the funds were sought to suppress a rape case. Dr. Kaur has dismissed these claims as baseless and obtained a court stay against the publication of unverified defamatory material.
