Costa Rica seasonal weather transitions
Overview
Costa Rica is entering a period of seasonal transition. The Instituto Meteorológico Nacional (IMN) reported a seasonal cold push expected to increase trade winds and bring potential rainfall to the Northern Zone, though with limited national influence.
As the 2026 rainy season begins to withdraw in early November, regional variations are expected. The North Pacific, including Guanacaste, is projected to enter the dry season first. Meanwhile, the Central Valley and the Central and South Pacific may experience intermittent rainfall throughout much of November. Experts noted that while the transition follows normal calendar dates, the shift could be “noticeably drier than usual,” with a particularly dry period forecast for the North Pacific, Central Pacific, and Central Valley between October 26 and November 1.
