The Instituto Nacional de Seguros (INS) announced that the 2027 marchamo collection period would begin on November 2, following the approval of Mandatory Automobile Insurance (SOA) tariffs by the Superintendencia General de Seguros (Sugese). A significant technological update for the 2027 period is the introduction of digital circulation rights and a durable RFID sticker for vehicles with windshields, such as cars, trucks, and buses. While the sticker is designed to last up to 10 years, owners must still make annual payments. The INS clarified that the sticker does not contain GPS technology and cannot track vehicle locations, though it is designed to self-destruct if removal is attempted. Motorcycles and special equipment will continue to use the traditional sticker system for the time being. Digital documents can be accessed via email or PDF, and payments can be completed through various digital platforms or physical locations before the December 31, 2026, deadline. With the official launch of the 2027 digital Marchamo, drivers can now receive circulation documents via email or mobile digital wallets. Traffic police have confirmed that motorists may apply the new 2027 sticker as soon as it is received, even before January 1, 2027, without the risk of fines. Furthermore, physical paper documents will no longer be required for inspections, as authorities will verify registration status digitally using license plate numbers.
