Criminal activity and judicial controversies in Italy

Italy continues to report various criminal activities and legal controversies involving robbery, assault, and illegal weapon possession.

In San Lazzaro di Savena, three individuals—a couple and a teenager—were arrested following an aggravated supermarket robbery. The group attempted to hide nearly 300 euros worth of cosmetics in a baby stroller and physically assaulted two employees during their escape attempt. Other recent robberies include a failed armed robbery at a pharmacy in Eboli, a 17-year-old attempting to rob a supermarket in Poggiomarino with a handgun, and a 34-year-old robbing a pizzeria in Padua.

A significant judicial controversy has intensified in Torino after a judge granted a 42-year-old man, accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl, only a signature requirement rather than pretrial detention. The judge cited the suspect’s cooperation and lack of a prior record, despite the existence of surveillance footage. This decision has prompted the Ministry of Justice to order inspections of the Torino court and has sparked national political outcry.

In Crotone, authorities seized 100 kg of potentially dangerous, thawed frozen food and suspended a supermarket’s operations due to structural failures and safety procedure violations. Previous reports also noted incidents of illegal knife possession in Latina and a reported attempt by two minors to rob a peer in Bregnano.
