Law enforcement agencies in Brazil and Portugal continue to report various criminal incidents involving violence, theft, and arson. In Brazil, recent reports include a confrontation in Maceió’s Jatiúca neighborhood between Municipal Department of Transport and Traffic (DMTT) agents and a delivery worker. Social media reports indicate the worker was knocked off his motorcycle during the intervention, with some accounts alleging the use of pepper spray. In the same city, a woman wanted by the courts was apprehended in the Jacintinho neighborhood after being identified by a public security totem’s facial recognition system. Violent crimes have included the execution of four men in Parauapebas, a shooting in Aparecida that left one person dead, and a shooting in Apucarana that left one man seriously injured. Other incidents involve a stabbing in Itupiranga, a home robbery in Plácido de Castro involving a hostage situation, and an arson attack on a workshop in Maracaju using Molotov cocktails. In Cuiabá, a man is under investigation for allegedly setting fire to a house containing his ex-partner and two young daughters. Additional reports include arrests for drug trafficking and illegal firearm possession in Fortaleza and Araras, a high-value residential robbery in Presidente Prudente, and the removal of clandestine surveillance cameras used by criminal factions in Salvador. In Salvador, Bahia, the Military Police conducted ‘Operação Olhos Fechados’ to remove clandestine surveillance cameras installed by criminal factions in the Plataforma, Garcia, and 2 de Julho neighborhoods. The regional command reported that 95 such cameras have been removed so far in 2026. In Efforts to combat environmental crimes have also intensified. Following a previous interception of 317 birds in Santarém, ~~Pará,~~ authorities ~~intercepted an interstate bus on the BR-163 highway containing 317 wild~~ in Morrinhos rescued 24 northeastern cardinal birds being ~~illegally transported, resulting~~ transported in a vehicle trunk on the ~~detention of two suspects.~~ BR-153 highway; the birds were kept in small cages without adequate ventilation or water.
