Law enforcement and emergency services in Romania have reported various criminal and safety incidents involving illegal weapons, hazardous materials, and industrial accidents. In the first half of 2026, police in Brașov conducted nearly 100 operations targeting the illegal possession of weapons, explosives, and dangerous substances. These actions resulted in the seizure of 50 weapons, including 15 lethal ones, and approximately 3,200 cartridges. Authorities also intercepted 7,500 kilograms of hazardous waste and 4,300 liters of dangerous substances. In early September, police conducted raids targeting poaching and weapons violations in Alba and Botoșani counties. Later in September, the Ilfov Weapons, Explosives and Dangerous Substances Service executed 18 search warrants across Ilfov, Giurgiu, and Teleorman counties regarding the illegal possession of lethal weapons and ammunition. Law enforcement efforts have also expanded to address drug trafficking and exploitation. In Galați and Constanța, police apprehended individuals involved in the trafficking of high-risk synthetic drugs. In Cluj, a Romanian man and a Spanish citizen were arrested for transporting two kilograms of cocaine from Spain to Romania, while additional arrests for drug trafficking occurred in Constanța and Brăila. In a related major case, DIICOT Brașov arrested a 42-year-old Romanian man and a 47-year-old Spanish citizen for international drug trafficking, alleging they coordinated the transport of two kilograms of cocaine from Spain to Romania, where the Romanian national was caught attempting to sell the drugs for 67,000 euros in Florești. Both men have been placed in 30-day preventive detention. Investigations into child pornography have intensified. In Mureș, DIICOT ~~issued a new preventive arrest warrant for~~ and local police detained former priest Cristian Pomohaci and ~~Ioan Cătălin Șerban.~~ a 31-year-old man. Prosecutors allege Pomohaci produced over 60 explicit photo and video files involving minors between 2017 and 2026, with investigators reportedly finding 286 such files on three mobile devices. ~~Șerban is accused of distributing these materials via online applications.~~
