Legal proceedings and criminal investigations have intensified regarding the Bamor organized supporters group in Bahia, Brazil. In one development, the Court of Justice of Bahia (TJBA) ordered a trial for four members of the group following an explosive attack on the Esporte Clube Bahia team bus in February 2022. The defendants face charges of attempted qualified murder. The attack caused serious injuries to goalkeeper Danilo Fernandes and defender Matheus Bahia. Separately, the Public Ministry of Bahia (MP-BA), through its specialized crime unit Gaeco, launched an operation in Salvador targeting the group’s leadership. Ten individuals, including the group’s president, Matheus Castro, and vice-president, Luciano Venâncio, were arrested amid allegations of torture, robbery, extortion, threats, and criminal association. The investigation stems from incidents in July where at least two victims were allegedly subjected to hours of physical and psychological violence. Reported methods of torture included the use of baseball bats, hammers, knives, suffocation, and simulated drowning. Victims were reportedly pressured to confess to financial irregularities and forced to perform bank transfers via Pix. As part of the operation, authorities executed 15 search and seizure warrants and are investigating the potential involvement of a military police officer. The MP-BA has ordered the interdiction of the Bamor headquarters. The operation resulted in the recovery of weapons, documents, and electronic devices.
