The Dominican Republic judiciary has issued several significant criminal rulings. The Supreme Court of Justice finalized a 20-year prison sentence for Argenis Contreras González, a former Metropolitan Office of Bus Services (OMSA) employee, for the 2017 murder of lawyer and professor Yuniol Ramírez Ferreras. Contreras, who was found to be the material author of the killing after Ramírez was kidnapped from a university campus, will serve his term at the Najayo Hombres Correctional and Rehabilitation Center. In related judicial activity, other courts issued various sentences for homicide, sexual assault, and threats. These include 20-year sentences for the fatal shooting of Wendy Montes de Oca, a 30-year sentence for threatening officials in Valverde, and a 10-year sentence for the sexual assault of a minor in Barahona. Additionally, law enforcement apprehended Carlos Alberto Peguero, a murder convict who had escaped while on a work permit. Recent judicial developments have expanded this list of convictions. In Barahona, the Court of Appeals sentenced New Yhoxel Ramírez Sánchez to 10 years for the sexual violation of an 11-year-old girl. Other notable rulings include 20 years for two men involved in a fatal shooting in Santo Domingo Norte, 30 years for Rubén Antonio Pacheco for attempting to murder officials in Valverde, and 15 years for Alexander Ogis Grullón Polanco for homicide in Tenares. Furthermore, Stanli Javier Sánchez was ordered to three months of preventive detention following a fatal dispute regarding a service payment in Santo Domingo.
