Criminal sentencing in Vancouver

Overview

Recent legal proceedings in Vancouver have resulted in prison sentences for two separate criminal incidents.

In one case, Tobin Haas, 58, was sentenced to 12.5 months in jail following a February 2024 incident in Delta. Haas pleaded guilty to dangerous operation of a vehicle causing bodily harm and driving with a suspended licence after fleeing a traffic stop and dragging a BC Highway Patrol officer with his vehicle.

In a separate matter, Harmesh Raghbir Singh Sandhu, 26, received a 46-month prison sentence for firearm-related offences. The conviction stems from an August 2024 incident where Sandhu was arrested by Vancouver Police after gunshots were heard in the downtown area. Sandhu pleaded guilty to charges including possession of a loaded restricted firearm and careless use of a firearm.
