Cristiano Ronaldo has returned to competitive action for Al Nassr, scoring his 977th career goal during a 4-0 victory over Al Riyadh in the Saudi Pro League. This followed his return to training in Riyadh after a break following the 2026 World Cup, where head coach Ange Postecoglou noted that “Ronaldo is always ready.” After missing the opening fixtures of the 2026/27 season due to post-World Cup recovery and a pelvic muscle injury, the 41-year-old entered the match as a substitute in the 62nd minute and scored in the 83rd minute. In the third round, Al Nassr maintained a perfect record with a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over Al-Ettifaq. In the fourth round, Al Nassr secured a 2-1 comeback victory against Al Taawoun, where Ronaldo scored his 978th official career goal and became Al Nassr’s all-time leading scorer in the Saudi Pro League. Following a 1-2 loss against Al Ittihad, Al Nassr secured a 2-1 victory against Abha at Al Awwal Park. Ronaldo scored a header in the 22nd minute, bringing his official career total to 979 goals and leaving him 21 shy of the 1,000-goal milestone. In their seventh-round match, Al Nassr drew 1-1 against Al Khaleej. After Omar Mascarell put the hosts ahead in first-half stoppage time, Abdullah Al-Hamdan equalized for Al Nassr in the second half. Despite controlling 68% of possession, the result left Al Nassr in third place with 16 points. Ronaldo had a quiet outing, recording only two shots. Manager Ange Postecoglou attributed the draw to player fatigue, citing a heavy schedule of eight matches since the season's start, high humidity, and frequent travel. The club now prepares for its AFC Champions League Elite campaign, starting with a match against Al Ain in the UAE on September 15.
