In July, the average cost of a basic food and hygiene basket for a family of four in Croatia rose to 480.99 euros, representing an 88-cent increase from June. This data was provided by a study from the price comparison portal koliko.hr and the Croatian Association for Consumer Protection (HUZP). The study identified regional price variations. Zadar County reported the highest average cost at 498.08 euros, while Sisak-Moslavina County offered the most affordable basket at 462.96 euros. Other notable costs included Zagreb at 496.13 euros and Karlovac at 496.48 euros. The ‘survival basket’ includes 51 essential items such as meat, dairy, bread, flour, pasta, rice, and hygiene products like soap and detergent. For other household sizes, the basic basket for a three-person family was 382.23 euros, and the single-person basket was 247.43 euros. Beyond the cost of the food basket, annual inflation in Croatia stood at 3.9 percent. This trend was largely driven by housing and energy costs, although clothing prices experienced a significant seasonal decrease.
