Croatia labor market and employment trends
Overview
The Croatian labor market continues to show significant sectoral and regional wage disparities. While previous data from July 2026 indicated Zagreb's average net salary was 1,738 euros, new data for the third quarter of 2026 shows the national average monthly net salary, including allowances, reached 1,586 euros. This figure represents a 3.1 percent increase compared to the same period last year, but a 4.2 percent decrease from the second quarter of 2026.
The median salary for the country was recorded at 1,500 euros, marking a 4.9 percent annual increase despite a 2.1 percent quarterly decline. Sectoral analysis shows the IT sector leading with the highest average net salary at 1,856 euros, followed by energy (1,804 euros), finance and insurance (1,708 euros), and construction and real estate (1,681 euros). Auxiliary occupations reported the lowest average earnings at 1,124 euros.
Regional differences remain pronounced. Zagreb reported the highest average salary at 1,701 euros, while Lika-Senj County recorded the lowest at 1,221 euros. Additionally, companies with foreign ownership saw higher average net salaries, reaching 1,676 euros.
Vocational support remains a component of the labor landscape, with the Croatian Employment Service (HZZ) having utilized a voucher program for micro-qualifications to assist approximately 65,000 individuals in various fields over the last four years.
