By mid-August 2026, intensive firefighting efforts continued across Dalmatia, specifically in the Omiš, Zadar, and Pelješac peninsula regions. As of 15 August, the season remains exceptionally demanding. Large-scale interventions have targeted significant blazes, including a fire near Lokva Rogoznica affecting approximately 1,000 hectares and a 250-hectare pine forest fire in Pučišća on Brač. Aerial support from Canadair and Air Tractor aircraft has been critical to these operations. Colonel Milan Došen, commander of the 855th Firefighting Squadron, noted that the intensity of the season is among the highest in recent years, reporting that the squadron has recorded approximately 800 flight hours—nearly double the amount from the same period last year. By 16 August, the response expanded to include military personnel. Croatian Minister of Defense Ivan Anušić reported that the Air Force remains a primary component of the effort, and approximately 40 soldiers have been deployed on the ground to assist firefighters, with a specific focus on protecting the Crvena zemlja military training ground. While some fires are under control, Anušić noted the military remains on standby and called for stricter penalties for arsonists.
