Croatian folklore ensemble and regional cultural activities
Croatian folklore ensembles have engaged in various regional and international cultural performances. In Čakovec, the 33rd Meeting of Croatian Folklore Ensembles and Original Groups brought together traditional groups from across the country to showcase regional songs, dances, and customs. During this meeting, KUD Belica performed wedding customs from the Međimurje region, while KUD Bjelovar presented Moslavina traditions through the choreography ‘Sadila sam vitu Jelu’. On an international level, the Split-based group Jedinstvo performed in Maceió, Brazil, before an audience of over 10,000 people. The group was received by Mayor Rodrigo Cunha, involving an exchange of symbolic gifts such as Croatian sports jerseys and Brazilian crowns. Recent cultural activities have expanded to include collaborations between Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. In Mostar, the State Review of Original Folklore of Croats in BiH featured eight cultural and artistic societies from both nations. Marija Buhač, President of the Government of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, noted the importance of “nurturing national identity through such manifestations.” This review aimed to preserve national identity and intangible cultural heritage. Additional regional events included the fifth concert ‘U srcu te nosim…’ in Hrastovica, organized by KUD ‘Hrastovička gora’, which featured various vocal and instrumental ensembles performing patriotic and folk songs. Other regional activities have included literary and educational programs, such as the presentation of the bilingual book ‘Multiculturalism in MY Istria’ in Buje and the ‘Days of the Book’ festival in Konjic.
