Crotone has faced significant challenges during its early season campaign. In mid-September, the club dealt with defensive shortages ahead of a match against Monopoli, with manager Leandro Greco confirming the absence of Filippo Groppelli due to suspension, as well as injuries to Walter Guerra and Arthur Spadoni. By late September, the club’s situation worsened as it faced a six-point penalty resulting from “financial and fiscal non-compliance,” increasing its struggle to climb out of the bottom of the standings. On the seventh matchday of Serie C, Crotone secured its first victory of the season by defeating Salernitana 2-1 at the Ezio Scida stadium. Goals from Musso and Zunno provided an early advantage for the home side. The match took a dramatic turn when Crotone goalkeeper Merelli was sent off in the 28th minute, forcing the team to play with ten men for over an hour. Despite intense pressure from Salernitana and a goal by Villa that narrowed the gap, Crotone successfully defended their lead. This win is considered significant as it effectively offsets the previously imposed six-point penalty, revitalizing the club’s position in the league standings. Following the match, Crotone coach Leandro Greco praised the team's character, stating they showed “heart, soul, and personality.” However, the momentum was interrupted in the eighth round of Serie C. Playing at the Massimino Stadium, Crotone suffered a 2-1 comeback defeat against Catania. Although Zunno gave Crotone an early lead in the 14th minute, Catania equalized through Roberto Insigne in the 69th minute before Massimo Coda secured the win with a penalty during stoppage time. Catania manager Emilio Longo attributed the shift in momentum to halftime tactical changes, noting that Crotone was left with “significant regrets” after failing to capitalize on their early dominance.
