Côte d’Ivoire Bafing bridge bus crash
Overview
On 13 July 2026 a 60‑seat bus operated by Diarra Transport slipped off the Bafing bridge on the Touba‑Biankouma highway in western Côte d’Ivoire. The vehicle, carrying 69 occupants, fell into the Bafing River after a front‑tire blowout. Rescue teams recovered 24 bodies, extracted 36 injured passengers, and reported nine people still missing. The Ivorian Ministry of Transport opened a technical and administrative investigation, citing possible vehicle condition, driver error, or weather‑related factors, and called for stricter road‑safety compliance during the rainy season.
