The 65th National Baseball Series (SNB) in Cuba has commenced, utilizing a restructured zonal format to mitigate the nation’s economic and energy crises. The 16 teams are organized into Western (Groups A and B) and Eastern (Groups C and D) zones to optimize logistics and reduce fuel consumption. Each team plays a reduced schedule of 44 games during the classification stage. As the series progresses, the league has seen high offensive production, with a collective batting average of .297, supported by 143 home runs and 206 doubles. However, pitching and defense have struggled; the collective earned run average (ERA) has risen to 6.07, and the league has recorded 142 errors across 128 games. In the Western zone, Vegueros de Pinar del Río ~~leads with a 7-1 record,~~ has extended its lead to 14-4, while the Avispas de Santiago de Cuba lead the Eastern zone with a 6-2 record. Individual highlights include Frank David González of Pinar del Río, who has recorded six home runs, and Naykel Cruz of Matanzas, who leads in saves with four. To diversify funding, the Cuban Baseball and Softball Federation is implementing a sponsorship model. This allows private entities to cover costs for teams, stadiums, equipment, and travel through direct financial contributions or products. While provinces manage funds locally, the Federation maintains organizational control, and national contracts must be channeled through Cubadeportes S.A. Industriales is acting as a pioneer in this initiative, and in Villa Clara, local businesses including La Glorieta, Pastelería 2 Reyes, and La Esquina de la Minuta have been announced as uniform sponsors for the 2026-2027 season.
