Cuba has announced a new format for its 65th National Baseball Series, which is scheduled to run from October 4 to December 22. To address economic and energy constraints, the tournament will utilize a two-zone structure—Oriental and Occidental—with four groups in the preliminary phase. Each team will play 44 games during the qualifying round to optimize resources like fuel. This represents a reduction of 31 games compared to the previous season. The playoffs will implement a Page playoff system adapted from softball, allowing the loser of the match between the first and second seeds a second chance against the winner of the third and fourth seed match. The champions of the West and East zones will eventually meet in a best-of-seven series to determine the national title. Juan Reinaldo Pérez Pardo, president of the Cuban Baseball and Softball Federation, indicated that the federation is seeking sponsorships and advertising to support athlete salaries, transportation, and lodging amidst the current economic situation. In addition to the domestic series, the Cuban U-23 pre-selection is scheduled to begin training on September 14 in Cienfuegos and Havana. This training is in preparation for the U-23 Baseball World Cup in Nicaragua this November. The program aims to include 45 players, including those with foreign league contracts, with a focus on improving run production.
