Cuba is celebrating the 66th anniversary of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR) with various regional ceremonies and recognitions. In Matanzas, the province was awarded the title of ‘Vanguardia Nacional’ for its implementation of the ‘Mi Barrio por la Patria’ movement. The municipality of Matanzas was also named the best provincial capital municipality in the country. National coordinator Gerardo Hernández Nordelo announced that 35 ‘Premios del Barrio’ would be awarded to individuals, families, and businesses for community development, alongside initiatives such as blood donations and energy saving. In Granma, celebrations were held at the Manuel Muñoz Cedeño Provincial Museum in Bayamo. Nine grassroots leaders received the ‘Medal for the Defense of the Homeland and the Unity of the Neighborhood’, while eight members were awarded the ‘September 28’ distinction. Provincial CDR secretary Leandro Fonseca Medina noted that these awards recognize consistent commitment, and Yudelkis Ortiz Barceló, the First Secretary of the Party in Granma, called for members to revitalize community work at the neighborhood level. In Isla de la Juventud, members and founders gathered to reflect on the organization’s history, specifically its role during the Bay of Pigs invasion and the 1962 Missile Crisis, emphasizing its mission to maintain social unity. Meanwhile, in In Cienfuegos, a provincial ceremony honored members for long-term service. The the Council of State awarded the ‘Medal for the Defense of the Homeland and the Unity of the Neighborhood’ to eight individuals, and ten others received the ‘September 28 Distinction’ for their dedication to local tasks tasks. A national ceremony attended by President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez and protecting revolutionary achievements. high-ranking members of the Communist Party of Cuba's Political Bureau recognized outstanding contributions. During this event, the ‘28 de Septiembre’ flag—the highest CDR decoration—was presented to 11 individuals and two labor collectives.
