Cuiabá has reported significant progress in literacy rates, rising from 47% to 61% between 2025 and 2026. This advancement brings the municipality close to the Ministry of Education’s target of 62%. The progress is supported by the Alfabetiza MT program, a collaboration between the city and state governments designed to improve pedagogical practices. To sustain these improvements, the Municipal Education Secretariat has implemented continuous training programs for early childhood educators, literacy teachers, and instructors. In October 2026, the Secretariat completed a week of training in partnership with the ‘Um Giro pela Aprendizagem’ program. Led by author Paulo César Magri, the sessions focused on methodologies for complex subjects, such as fractions, to address learning gaps in Portuguese and Mathematics. During this period, officials emphasized the importance of monitoring indicators like the ‘Destaque IDEB 2025’ to ensure teaching quality. Infrastructure and administrative planning have also advanced. The city completed the R$ 1.2 million reconstruction and expansion of the Ceic Sebastião Tolomeu early childhood education center, providing specialized facilities for 214 children. Additionally, the municipal government established the regulatory framework for the 2027 school year via Ordinance No. 868/2026/GS/SME. CULT. ESP, defining procedures for class assignments and work schedules based on performance, seniority, and age. In October 2026, the municipal government further detailed the rules and schedule for the 2027 assignment of classes and workdays for permanent education professionals. This administrative process includes performance evaluations and specific deadlines scheduled throughout November and December. During this same period, the Municipal Education Secretariat began distributing the ‘Pix do Professor’ award, a R$ 1.57 million investment intended to benefit 10,336 education professionals, including teachers and student caregivers.
