Swedish post-metal band Cult of Luna has released a new single titled ‘The Rift’ as a preview for their tenth studio album, ‘In the Shadow of Your Shadow’. The track is described as a blend of sludge metal, hardcore, and art-rock, with some reports noting it is the fastest song the group has ever written. The upcoming album is scheduled for release on November 6 via the band’s label, RED CRK Recordings. The record features guest appearances by Joe Duplantier of Gojira on ‘Sadness Will Reign’ and David Eugene Edwards of 16 Horsepower on ‘One More Day’. Lyrically, the work explores themes of loss and the human experience. Vocalist Johannes Persson stated that ‘The Rift’ explores the human need for belonging and how shared convictions can create group euphoria while simultaneously widening social rifts and deepening loneliness. Following the single, the full album ‘In the Shadow of Your Shadow’ has been released, characterized by dense soundscapes and a sense of bleakness. Critics have noted the album explores themes of loss, resentment, and existential struggle, highlighting tracks such as the 12-minute epic ‘Breach’, ‘Sadness’, ‘A Way Back’, and ‘Landby’. The title track features a shift in Persson’s vocal performance toward a more ‘cold and domineering delivery’. The album was recorded by Daniel Berglund, mixed by Magnus Lindberg, and mastered by Ted Jensen. The band is also planning a tour between late February and ~~mid-March~~ mid-march 2027.
