Cultural and humanitarian activities in Belgrade
Overview
Belgrade is hosting various community-driven events focused on cultural preservation and humanitarian aid. In early September, fundraising initiatives were organized to support independent cultural spaces and provide aid to the national association NURDOR, which supports parents of children with cancer.
Following these events, the ne:Bitef alternative festival was announced for September 20. This self-organized initiative, consisting of 60 micro-events across the city, was established as a response to what organizers describe as “financial, administrative, and programmatic repression” and censorship affecting the official Bitef theatre festival. The alternative program utilizes independent venues to bypass institutional systems and features international solidarity following the withdrawal of several plays from the official festival program.
