Zakynthos is preparing for various religious and cultural events. The Holy Metropolis of Zakynthos has scheduled religious ceremonies for celebrating the feast of its patron saint, Saint Dionysios from August 23 to Dionysios, with a series of religious ceremonies beginning August 26, 23, 2026. These festivities include processions mark the 309th anniversary of sacred relics, vigils, the transfer of the Saint’s Holy Relics from the Strofadia Islands to Zakynthos in August 1717. The scheduled program includes a Holy Vigil, Divine Liturgy, and Hierarchical Liturgies involving a procession of the Saint’s sepulchral shrine through the city. Participants include the Zakynthos Municipal Band, local municipal bands scout troops, and representatives from various delegations. educational and cultural organizations. Saint Dionysios, born in Zakynthos in 1547, served as the Bishop of Aegina before passing away in 1622 at the Monastery of the Theotokos of Anafonritissa. Separately, the musical group ‘Tragoudistades tis Zakynthou’ has announced the postponement of a tribute to Dimitris Lagios to November. The group clarified that the event was postponed rather than ‘CANCELLED’, as previously stated by the Municipality of Zakynthos, citing the municipality’s inability to meet organizational obligations for the summer production.
