Veliko Tarnovo hosted a series of cultural and tourism-focused events in late 2026. The period began with the 15th edition of the ‘Night of Literature’ on October 1, a pan-European initiative featuring contemporary literature readings across three local venues. Following this, the city hosted the 21st International Cultural Tourism Exhibition from October 7 to 9. Supported by the Bulgarian Ministry of Tourism, the exhibition served as a professional forum for municipalities, cultural institutions, and tourism professionals. The event featured over 40 exhibitors from countries including China, Azerbaijan, and Serbia. The exhibition program included professional conferences on global tourism changes and workforce education, alongside cultural activities such as the ‘Local Bites – Taste of the Regions’ culinary competition, which highlighted authentic Bulgarian regional gastronomy. During the exhibition, Ruse Municipality showcased its cultural heritage and modern tourism development, featuring the ‘Garash’ cake, the city’s culinary emblem, which drew significant interest during the cooking competition. Kyustendil Municipality also participated, emphasizing its history as a cultural and balneological center by presenting the archaeological and numismatic heritage of ancient Pausia, including Roman-era coins and artifacts, while promoting tourism routes that combine historical sites with natural mineral springs.
