The Palacolosimo fairground in Catanzaro has emerged as a significant venue for major cultural events in the Calabria region. Following its transition from a pandemic vaccine hub, the facility has hosted various exhibitions and is scheduled to support supported large-scale musical performances, such as the Jovanotti concert at the Calabria Music Arena. In response to the national attention generated by these events, a proposal titled ‘Oltre il palco, Catanzaro racconta Catanzaro’ (Beyond the Stage, Catanzaro Tells Catanzaro) has been was submitted to local government. The initiative seeks government to leverage the visibility gained from large-scale entertainment to showcase Catanzaro’s for local innovation, research, culture, and entrepreneurship. Following the Jova Summer Party, which attracted approximately 30,000 people, Mayor Nicola Fiorita highlighted the significant economic impact of such gatherings, noting high occupancy rates for local hotels and B&Bs. The Mayor described these events—which also include the Giro d'Italia and the Olympic flame—as a strategic political choice to combat the city’s isolation and revitalize its image. The administration intends to use these gatherings to build a tourism vocation and re-establish Catanzaro as a central hub for major cultural and musical spectacles, supported by the Calabria Region.
