Plovdiv is hosting a series of cultural and artistic events throughout the late summer and autumn of 2026. In August, the city’s singing fountains in the City Garden featured a documentary film series titled ‘Discover Plovdiv’. On August 20, the Orpheus Summer Cinema hosted Krastyu Lafazanov in ‘Polnoldie otlozhen zhivot’ (Full Moon Postponed Life). September features a dense schedule of musical and theatrical events. The Opera Open 2026 series presents Tchaikovsky’s ‘Swan Lake’ on September 4 and concludes with Carl Orff’s ‘Carmina Burana’ on September 9. The International Street Art Festival ‘TheatAir 2026’ runs from September 4 to 7. The 30th edition of the ‘Scena na krastoput’ (Crossroads Stage) international theatre festival takes place from September 10 to 21. During this festival, the Istanbul State Theatre’s production of ‘Looking for an Old Clown’ received acclaim, marking the first Turkish-language theatrical production in Plovdiv after a long hiatus. Mid-September introduces further community and music programming. The second edition of the ‘All Together Now’ electronic music mini-festival is scheduled for September 19 at Dondukova Garden, featuring artists such as sayulke and TECHNOBETON. On September 20, the ‘Zabavno Mezhuchasie’ festival will feature over 230 young performers to benefit the Agapedia Bulgaria Foundation. Additionally, the ‘Old Town Days’ festival runs from September 16 to 23 under the theme ‘Revived Heritage’. Major musical performances are scheduled at the Ancient Theatre. On September 18, Tarja Turunen will perform ‘The World of Dreams’ with the Plovdiv Opera orchestra and choir, marking her first concert in the country using this specific piano and orchestral format. On September 19, the Greek symphonic metal band Septicflesh will present ‘Ancient Whispers’, an event attracting ticket sales from 46 countries.
