Cultural festivals in Cuba have recently highlighted the nation's diverse heritage through various regional celebrations. In Matanzas, the 16th Fiesta de los Orígenes concluded with a four-day program focused on Spanish musical heritage and Afro-Cuban traditions. The event included performances by the Banda Provincial de Conciertos de Matanzas and the Academia de Ballet Español Donaire, alongside the unveiling of identification plaques for the Iyessa San Juan Bautista and Nilo Nille cabildos to honor specific deities. The 32nd Fiesta de la Cubanía is set to take place in Bayamo, Granma province, from October 17 to 20, coinciding with the Day of Cuban Culture on October 20. Organizing committee director Ridiel Roblejo stated that the festival aims to defend national identity and ensure culture remains central to the people, even amidst complex circumstances. Under the theme ‘Nuestro destino, la Patria’, the festival will feature programming dedicated to the centenary of Fidel Castro's birth and the 255th anniversary of patriot Francisco Vicente Aguilera. Parallel to these festivities, the Asociación Hermanos Saíz (AHS), which represents young artistic vanguards, is celebrating its 40th anniversary. President Miguel Díaz-Canel met with over fifty members at the José Martí Memorial to commemorate the milestone. During the meeting, he attended the presentation of the ‘Maestros de Juventudes’ awards to approximately twenty Cuban and foreign personalities. Díaz-Canel noted that young creators are active participants in the struggle for “meaning, beauty, and spirituality” within the construction of socialism, describing them as sensitive actors rather than mere spectators. In Matanzas, the AHS is conducting a program through October 20, including the ‘Ensayo General’ youth art fair, ceramic workshops, hip hop sessions, and concerts by groups such as Los Muñequitos de Matanzas.
