Cultural heritage initiatives in Diyarbakır and Bingöl have focused on both physical restoration and community engagement. The General Directorate of Foundations completed restoration, conservation, and reinforcement projects for several historical sites, including mosques and tombs in Diyarbakır and the Kiğı Balaban Bey Mosque in Bingöl. These sites were reopened for active worship following a collective ceremony. Following these physical preservation efforts, the Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality launched educational programs for children to promote awareness of local heritage. These activities included interactive theater performances, historical tours of the Sur district, and introductions to the regional oral musical tradition known as the ‘dengbêj tradition’. Building on these efforts, the Turkey Culture Route Festival has expanded cultural engagement in the region. In Diyarbakır, the festival highlights the city’s living heritage through exhibitions at the Archaeology Museum and academic panels discussing local history and the Kurdish language. The festival also incorporates interactive theater for children, historical site tours in the Sur district, and musical performances by various artists. Recent developments show the continued implementation of the Culture Route Festival. In Diyarbakır, the festival continues to offer programs such as the ‘Living Heritage: Diyarbakır Exhibition’ at the Archaeology Museum, alongside academic panels on local history and linguistics, and interactive theater for children.
