The city of Galatina in Salento has launched new guided tour initiatives designed to showcase its historical and artistic heritage. These programs aim to provide an immersive experience of the city’s identity through specific itineraries. One route, ‘Destinazione Galatina. Dove tutto inizia’, guides participants from the Clock Tower through the historic center, including various palaces and courtyards. A primary focus of these tours is the Basilica of Saint Catherine of Alexandria, which is noted for its significant 14th-century frescoes and Salentine Gothic architecture. The tours also highlight the Chapel of Saint Paul, a site linked to the tradition of tarantism. Additionally, the ‘Galatina Classic Tour’ offers an exploration of the city’s baroque streets. Led by an art historian, this specific tour emphasizes the fresco cycle within the Basilica of Saint Catherine d'Alessandria, which is described as one of the most important in Southern Italy. To conclude the summer season, the town is hosting several cultural events. On August 23, 2026, the ‘Ronde della Taranta’ will serve as the final stage of the itinerant La Notte della Taranta Festival. Promoted by the Municipality of Galatina and the Fondazione della Notte della Taranta, this event focuses on the traditional music and dance of pizzica and tarantism. Further expanding its tourism offerings, the ‘Galatina dall’Alto’ experience is scheduled for August 26. This guided tour provides access to private terraces, rooftops, and panoramic viewpoints, including the Basilica of Santa Caterina d’Alessandria and the Church of Saints Peter and Paul, to view the Baroque architecture and Salento landscape at sunset.
