Curry Barker releases new horror short film Mama Bear on YouTube

Horror filmmaker Curry Barker, known for the global box office success of Obsession, has released a new five-minute psychological horror short titled Mama Bear. The film premiered exclusively on his YouTube channel, That’s a Bad Idea, as a Halloween release sponsored by Microsoft Windows.

The short film follows a character named Floyd, played by Jon Lee Richardson, who is jolted from a nap by disturbing phone calls and unsettling voice messages. The narrative involves a woman named Lacey, portrayed by Katie Sarife, and features surreal elements including doppelgängers and a tragic conclusion. The production utilized members of the creative team from Obsession, including production designer Vivian Gray and costume designer Blair James.

Barker’s recent career trajectory includes the film Obsession, which grossed over $500 million worldwide on a budget of less than $1 million. His upcoming projects include the horror-comedy Anything But Ghosts, backed by Focus Features and Blumhouse, scheduled for release in May 2027, and a reported development deal for a Texas Chainsaw Massacre reboot.
