Cyberabad police preventive detention of habitual offenders
Overview
Cyberabad Police have invoked the Preventive Detention (PD) Act against two habitual offenders in Hyderabad to curb ongoing criminal activities.
Nagaraju Raghu Verma, a native of West Godavari, was detained for allegedly impersonating a police officer to defraud, kidnap, and extort money. Authorities noted Verma has a criminal history involving 14 cases between 2017 and 2026, including violations of the Arms Act. Despite previous detentions under the PD Act in 2021 and 2024, he reportedly resumed criminal activities upon release. He has been transferred to Cherlapally Central Jail.
Additionally, Derangula Ravi, also known as ‘Gaja Donga’, was detained and lodged in Cherlapalli Central Prison. Police report that Ravi has been allegedly involved in 64 criminal cases over the last 18 years, including extortion, house burglaries, vehicle thefts, and assaults with weapons.
