Kaspersky reports indicate a significant rise in cyberattacks targeting employees by impersonating legitimate workplace tools. Between July 2025 and June 2026, approximately 4.7 million attempted attacks were detected. Zoom was the most frequently impersonated platform, followed by Outlook, OneDrive, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Teams. The most prevalent threat category was the ‘Downloader’, used to install additional software on devices.

Further research involving 1,800 cybersecurity specialists across 18 countries suggests that 80% of organizations view the ‘human factor’ as the primary driver of successful cyberattacks. This vulnerability is attributed to three main risks: high workloads for IT and security teams, a lack of professional expertise and experience, and insufficient employee awareness regarding security training. These human-centric weaknesses allow attackers to bypass technical defenses through social engineering or configuration errors.
