The Executive Superintendency of Urban Mobility of João Pessoa (Semob-JP) concluded the 2026 National Traffic Week with the inaugural ‘Pedal pela Vida’ cycling tour. Held along the coastlines of Cabo Branco and Tambaú, the event gathered 550 participants, including athletes and families, under the theme ‘In traffic, respect for the cyclist is the way’. In addition to promoting cycling awareness, the tour served a charitable purpose by collecting over 500 kg of non-perishable food items for a local charity. Organizers provided participants with kits, fruit, water, and bicycle raffles. In conjunction with these mobility efforts, the Secretariat of Infrastructure (Seinfra) has launched a pothole repair operation. This initiative covers 35 neighborhoods, including Cabo Branco, Centro, and Manaíra, aimed at restoring road surfaces and maintaining drainage systems. As part of broader urban management in João Pessoa, authorities are also conducting cleaning operations on school grounds in preparation for upcoming elections. Furthermore, digital parking credentials for the elderly and people with disabilities are now available online through the Senatran portal or the Carteira Digital de Trânsito app to facilitate access to reserved spaces. On a national level, Brazil is observing National Traffic Week through initiatives by the National Traffic System focused on road safety education and regulatory compliance. These efforts include awareness campaigns such as the Observatório Nacional de Segurança Viária’s ‘O que a pressa não deixa você ver’. Despite these safety initiatives, challenges persist, including the use of dark window films and legal disputes regarding the regulation of parking attendants. Educational efforts have expanded to include students in local schools, who are participating in creative workshops focused on road safety and environmental sustainability.
