The Czech Republic is advancing its military logistics, civil defense, and long-term strategic planning to prepare for potential high-intensity conflicts. Initial efforts focused on technical and civil preparedness, including a contract for advanced digital road network data to assist military transport planning and the development of the ‘iKryty’ application. This software, a collaboration between several universities and municipal services, aims to map improvised urban shelters for citizen protection during armed conflicts. This preparedness is further formalized in the ‘Long-term Defense Outlook 2045’ strategic document. The Ministry of Defence identifies Russia as the most significant security threat, noting risks ranging from conventional warfare to cyberattacks and sabotage. The country is preparing for a ‘long-term conflict of high intensity with a technologically advanced opponent.’ To address these threats and the shifting responsibility for European defense, threats, Prague has outlined an extensive military expansion plan approved by the Czech Republic plans to modernize its military National Security Council. Key objectives include establishing a civilian security preparedness system by 2030, expanding space reconnaissance capabilities by 2032, and procuring additional weaponry through 2038. Specific military upgrades include the acquisition of 24 F-35 fighter jets, brigade modernization, jets and enhanced space reconnaissance, while aiming to establish a civilian security preparedness system the formation of two modernized brigades. While the Czech government prepares for these risks, U.S. President Donald Trump has downplayed the threat posed by 2030. Russia, stating he does not believe Vladimir Putin is planning attacks against NATO.
