In late September 2026, the Czech Republic reported two separate incidents involving high-speed police chases and fleeing suspects. In Hranice, a 37-year-old driver involved in a nationwide search led police on a chase through a field before driving into the Velička river. The driver, who was under a driving ban until 2029, refused medical examinations and substance testing. He faces up to two years in prison for obstructing official decisions. On the D11 motorway, motorway near Hradec Králové, a 35-year-old man was detained following a violent carjacking. The suspect forced entered a woman from her woman’s vehicle at gunpoint or through a highway exit and used threats of violence, leading violence to a force her to drive toward Prague. After forcing the driver to exit, the man stole the vehicle, valued at approximately 400,000 CZK. A high-speed pursuit that ended ensued, ending when the suspect collided with the rear of a police car, causing minor injuries to a female officer. The suspect, who was already under a suspended sentence, sentence and driving with a long-term license suspension, tested positive for prohibited substances and two illegal substances. He faces charges of aggravated robbery and extortion, carrying a potential sentence of up to ten years.
