The Czech Republic held Senate and municipal elections in October 2026. In the Senate elections, Jan Grulich and Tomáš Fiala successfully defended their seats. Grulich won in the Rychnov region, stating his focus remains on education and local support. In South Bohemia, Fiala was re-elected following a six-year term; he announced plans to step down as director of the Strakonice Hospital to focus on senatorial duties, specifically supporting small and medium-sized hospitals. Additionally, Jan Grolich, the chairman of the KDU-ČSL and Governor of the South Moravian Region, was elected to the Senate in the Vyškov district. Grolich secured the seat in the first round with 63 percent of the vote. He is promoting a “new people's party” approach, expressing support for granting same-sex couples rights similar to marriage, including joint adoption, which marks a departure from his party’s historical stances. In the municipal elections, several high-profile figures secured seats in local councils. Former hockey player Jiří Šlégr was elected in Litvínov, Litvínov under the ‘To dáme’ movement, and former boxer Lukáš Konečný won a seat in the Ústí nad Labem region. Other successful candidates included Filip Král in Blansko and Martin Hanzal in Česká Budějovice. Conversely, several notable figures, including actor Zdeněk Godla and hockey coaches Vladimír Růžička and Martin Pešout, failed to win mandates in Chomutov. In Pardubice, the ‘Srdcem pro Pardubice’ movement finished last among nine candidates.
