The Czech National Heritage Institute (NPÚ) has announced free-entry days for various state-managed monuments on August 30 and September 27, 2026. This initiative extends beyond castles and châteaux to include gardens, monasteries, hospitals, and technical monuments. Due to high demand, many popular dates are already fully booked, and visitors must use the official NPÚ website to pre-book tickets for specific time slots to manage capacity limits. Complementing these dates, the Czech Ministry of Culture announced that state-run galleries and museums will offer free admission to permanent exhibitions on the first Sunday of every month, beginning September 6. Minister of Culture Oto Klempíř stated this aims to make culture accessible to a wider audience, expanding upon previous programs for seniors, children, and people with disabilities. The monthly program is scheduled through the end of the year, with potential continuation into 2027. Participating institutions include the National Gallery Prague, the Moravian Gallery in Brno, the Olomouc Museum of Art, the National Museum, the Moravian Museum, the Silesian Museum, the State Museum of Glass and Jewelry, the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, and the Museum of Romani Culture. To mitigate lost ticket sales, the Ministry intends to compensate institutions using its existing budget. The policy has triggered political friction. MEP Danuše Nerudová questioned the compensation methods and engaged in a social media exchange with Klempíř regarding his past cooperation with the StB. The Ministry plans to evaluate the program’s financial impact by mid-fourth quarter. In conjunction with these efforts and the European Heritage Days, local initiatives are also emerging.
